In the wild, Cockatiel often works in pair or small group for food which are seeds, cereal and some kind of local argricultural insects. Cockatiel’s habitats are often dead trees, streams and rivers bank,… They seems to live nearby areas of water sources. Most of Cockatiel likes bathing. In addition, they also find foods such as seeds, grasses and phloems. Also, they eat some other types of insect and grubs.
Cockatiel is quite strong and disease-resistant but their meals should be still concerned. They like climbing, biting and nibbling wood so trainers should not keep them in one place. Cages for a pair of Cockatiels should be metal, 60cm long, 45cm wide and 35cm high. Standing bridges ought to be made of hard woods. Nest boxes are made of woods with 35cm length, 20cm width, 16cm height and 7-8cm diameter hole with ebony inside. Trainers have to clean, replace clean water daily and sand weekly, food boxes and cages should be sterilized monthly. Because of the wide change of temperature in spring and summer, temperature of room need to be notice to prevent diseases. The winter temperature indoor is not lower than 16 Celcius degree. Ventilation should be strengthened in summer.
In the North Australia, Cockatiel breeding season is from April to July, that in the South one is from August to December. Each nest have about 1-7 eggs and 4 on average. Baby birds are fed by their parents in the morning and evening. In captive conditions, the rate of successful fertility is quite low. 12 months old Cockatiel is about to have fertility but the age to start breeding is about 15-18 months old. At this age, that many Cockatiels are still in developing stage leads to erratic reproduction. The size of nest should be 35 x 20 x 18cm, 6-7cm diameter hole. Each nest has about 4-6 eggs with 19-21 days hatching. Baby birds should be fed with sotf foods.
