The Nanday Conure, also known as the Black-headed Conure or Nanday Parakeet, is a small-medium sized Neotropical parrot native to South America. Its most distinctive features are its black mask and bill. It also has long, black flight feathers on its wings and a long tail with a blue tip. The upper breast is blue-green and the lower breast is a lighter green. The feathers covering its thighs are red.

Description

The Nanday Conure, also known as the Black-headed Conure or Nanday Parakeet, is a small-medium sized Neotropical parrot native to South America. The Nanday is 27–30 cm long, weighs 140 g and is predominantly green. Its most distinctive features are its black mask and bill. It also has long, black flight feathers on its wings and a long tail with a blue tip. The upper breast is blue-green and the lower breast is a lighter green. The feathers covering its thighs are red.

Nanday Conures are active and rarely stay still. They are therefore easy to play with. They are intelligent, talkative and quick to learn tricks. Although active, they sometimes like to be petted when bored and sleepy. This species has a funny habit of sleeping with its legs in the air as if playing dead.
